new orientation

I don't know what happened, I don't know how it happened, but I suddenly want to become a nurse. One day in November, I just woke up, and BAM I want to become a nurse. It was really spontaneous, but this feeling persisted, and I was debating for a whole week, whether to change program or not. And now, I've decided, I'm going back to college for a DEC in nursing this fall.

A lot of my friends were surprised that I suddenly had a change of heart, and went from accounting to nursing, since this is such a big change. I'm also a second year student in university so in one more year, I'm going to get my BAC in accounting. Such a waste. But no, I'm going to finish my BAC part time :) dont worry guys! I don't want to cut all my roads either.

I think the whole idea came when I was at the hospital at the beginning of the month. My grandma had to go to the ER and we stayed there for about 12 hours. I was exhausted, I was worried, I felt powerless. (My granny is alright now!). I was thankful that a nurse there, Michel, was so helpful and caring. He kept telling me that everything was going to be ok, nothing's wrong, there's nothing to worry about. It may seem like nothing, but such small words are all a person needs to feel reassured. I also observed him working during my long stay (cuz had to switch phone off -_-), and nursing is not what I thought it was. It was not just cleaning patients, changing beds, and changing diapers, they had much more responsibilities.

Then, I thought about my life, what can I achieve being an accountant? I trust my capabilities, and I know I can go much higher than being a senior accountant, but I also know myself, I know that I'll sacrifice a lot to achieve that position. Is that really what I want? Is this really the goal of my life? No. We only live life once, why not choose something that I'm gonna love, and that I'm gonna end my life saying, yes I did it. Cuz really, I can only picture myself saying... yes I'm the manager or whatever of the accounting unit, ... so what? Do you really want to die saying that? No.

I want to die knowing that I've helped so many people and that I've cared about so many people. I want people to remember that there was this person who helped them when they needed it, who reassured them when they felt insecure. Sure, there's almost no competition in nursing, like who helped more people? lol I helped 99 today and you helped 100? No. This is the only element i'm going to miss about accounting. But hey, why compare yourself with other people? Just be better than yourself, and that's how you can achieve more in life.

I'm going to finish university in five years :(, and that's about the only thing that bothers me. But, I'll be more than happy using 5 years to do something I like than to waste 45 years of my life in a job I hate. AND I'm going to have 2 BAC and 2 DEC... and probably more diplomas! Why not?
